Words Have Substance
Our words have a spiritual substance. It is no mistake that the word for spirit and wind are the same in Hebrew. When we speak we breathe out little puffs of wind or spirit. These words then create and give life to one of two types of environments.
It is helpful to analogize this with the plant world. There are different types of air, dry desert air or wet rain-forest air. Each type of air causes different types of plants to grow. So it is with our words.
Speaking words of death and cursing makes things that are similar to bacteria, mold, and other toxic plant life flourish. But words of life plant things like orchards. These “fruit trees” that are planted and nurtured by our words then grow up and provide for us. Just as a fruit tree feeds us, so do the blessings we plant in our lives with our words.
“Both fresh and salt water cannot come from the same mouth.”
“An evil man brings out of his heart evil things, but a good man good things.”
“Not what goes into the mouth that defiles, but what comes out.”
Our words exhale either toxins or light. Those lights or toxins already reside in our spirit….
We can pollute or heal the atmosphere with our words...

*This is often referred to as the “new moon” in modern vernacular. But many traditional cultures considered the new moon to occur when the moon is once again visible. Because I too hold to this idea, I am using the words “Dark moon” to refer to the days when the moon is hidden.
